"After a successful 17-year run, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire will not return in national syndication for the 2019-20 season,” a show spokesperson tells Variety. The cancelation comes three months ahead of the 20th-anniversary of Who Wants to be a Millionaire launching and instantly becoming a national phenomenon and ratings juggernaut, with host Regis Philbin. Premiering on Aug. 16, 1999, ABC's Who Wants to be a Millionaire became the No. 1 show on TV, averaging 30 million viewers a day three times a week at its peek. The Philbin-hosted primetime version ended in 2002. That same year, Meredith Vieira launched the syndicated Millionaire, hosting until 2013. She was succeeded by Cedric the Entertainer for the 2013-14 season and Terry Crews for the 2014-15 season. The Bachelor host Chris Harrison has been hosting since 2015.
