Seth Meyers and Late Night writer Sal Gentile recall scrapping their plans to address the Jan. 6 insurrection

"A year ago, we scrapped our taping plans and instead went live to address the events of the day," tweeted Meyers, who is in quarantine after testing positive for COVID on Tuesday. He added that "A Closer Look" writer Gentile, "as always, found the right words for the moment, though I regret ending it by saying, 'I'm never gonna get COVID!!!!'" Gentile responded to Meyers' tweet, adding: "I feel very honored and privileged to work for a show and host who endeavor every day to just tell the truth. Usually we do it through jokes but a year ago we had to do a live show, and we thought the most useful thing we could do was just say what we saw with our own eyes."
