Emmy award-nominated comedian, writer, and talk show host Seth Meyers is widely known as the host of the beloved NBC late-night talk show, Late Night with Seth Meyers. He has been hosting the show for 11 years now, after assuming the role in February 2014.

In the July 28 episode of the podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Seth Meyers opened up to Shepard and his co-host Monica Padman about how he would feel when his talk show inevitably comes to an end at some point in the future.

"There is this weird thing that I feel like I shifted from fearing that I wouldn’t be good enough and now my fear is weirdly more outside of my control, which is (that) just at some point the ecosystem might not support it. I guess that’s better than thinking it’s your fault, but it is weird to not feel any control over it," Meyers shared.

When Padman asked Seth Meyers whether financial security would ease his mind if his show ended "tomorrow," the former SNL performer admitted it would still take a toll on his mental health. He continued:

"But I put a lot of thought into, like, diversifying my skill set. Certainly, financially, I could have been fine just doing the show for the last eleven years. But then it was like, oh, you know what? I feel like there's something to, like, trying to build a stand-up career and trying to do other things."

Elsewhere in the interview, Meyers said he is grateful he got the chance to host the talk show and also acknowledged the evolving TV business.

Seth Meyers paid tribute to Stephen Colbert after the latter's talk show was cancelled

Seth Meyers' concern about Late Night with Seth Meyers coming to an end is plausible, considering that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was canceled earlier this month. After CBS announced the cancellation news, Meyers and fellow late-night hosts paid a tribute to Colbert on social media.

As reported in a PEOPLE article published on July 18, 2025, in a heartfelt post on his Instagram stories, Meyers wrote:

"For as great a comedian and host he is, Stephen Colbert is an even better person. I’m going to miss having him on TV every night but I’m excited he can no longer use the excuse that he’s ‘too busy to hang out’ with me."

Colbert has been a strong critic of the Trump administration and has joked about CBS's motives for cancelling his show since the announcement.

Why did CBS cancel Stephen Colbert's late-night show?

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, CBS claimed that the decision to cancel was "purely a financial decision." The statement further read:

"It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount."

It continued that the network's "admiration, affection, and respect" for Stephen Colbert and his team made the decision to cancel his show even more painful. The final season of the show is scheduled to air during the 2025-26 season.

The timing of the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been suggested to be suspicious. A few weeks ago, CBS's parent company, Paramount, settled a lawsuit with U.S. President Donald Trump for $16 million. Then, in late July 2025, federal regulators approved Skydance Media’s $8 billion acquisition of Paramount.
