Former Paramount Studios executive Peter Bart accuses The Offer of being mostly fiction in telling the behind-the-scenes story of The Godfather

Bart, who was Paramount's vice president of production when he obtained the rights to Mario Puzo's unfinished novel The Godfather, disputes the Paramount+ limited series, based on incidents and anecdotes supplied by the film's producer Albert S. Ruddy. Bart is portrayed on The Offer by actor Josh Zuckerman. "Was Al Ruddy on an island of his own making?" he asks, adding: "While The Godfather’s dramatic saga over the years has moved millions of filmgoers, the TV narrative about its supposed production crises may ultimately be listed under the genre of science fiction."
