Ellen Page breaks her silence on Jussie Smollett arrest

Shortly after the Empire star reported his hate crime, a "fired up" Page appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where she blamed Vice President Mike Pence's policies for contributing to homophobia. In a Hollywood Reporter Op-Ed published this morning, Page responded to the fallout over Smollett's hate crime possibly being a hoax. "While the media and public debate the case and await more information," she wrote, "we must not lose sight of the very real, endemic violence that LGBTQ+ people, people of color and other underrepresented communities face every day."
