In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant on July 4, 2025, The Ultimatum: Queer Love season 2 stars Marita Prodger and Britney Thompson reflected on their journey during the trial marriage. While their pairing wasn’t initially by choice, it turned into one of the healthiest and most supportive dynamics on the show.
Marita opened up about how the experience helped her realise what she truly needed in a relationship, saying,
"I thought it would be us at the end of it, but just seeing that lack of growth on her side, and then also being with Britney and learning all about this compassionate, beautiful love that I do deserve, just really put me in this mindset of like, okay, you know what? I can set myself free."
Their bond, which began with uncertainty, ultimately helped both women gain clarity about what they wanted for their future.
Although Britney and Marita didn’t choose each other during the Choice ceremony, their unexpected pairing led to one of the most positive relationships in the experiment. Marita initially selected AJ, Britney’s original partner, which left Britney unpaired. As the last two remaining, they ended up together by default in The Ultimatum: Queer Love.
Despite having spoken only once before living together, the connection grew quickly. Marita recalled the moment they were seated next to each other during the ceremony:
“I tapped her on the shoulder, and I was like, you and I, like, we're going to be here,” she said.
She admitted she was nervous at first since she had strong feelings for AJ at the time. However, living with Britney changed her perspective. Britney also felt uneasy about the sudden switch, saying she was caught off guard and wondered,
“Am I going to get what I need out of this?” She brought AJ into the experiment with the hope of finding clarity, so being paired with someone she barely knew was unexpected. But she later shared,
“I literally got everything I needed out of our trial marriage.”
Despite the rocky start, the pairing turned out to be meaningful for both.
Marita and Britney’s trial marriage turned out to be surprisingly smooth in The Ultimatum: Queer Love. They shared similar schedules, cooked together, and supported each other through daily stresses. Marita described the experience as “perfect” and credited Britney for bringing a positive energy that lifted her up even on hard days.
Comparing that to her previous relationship with Ashley, Marita began to understand the kind of love she truly deserved.
“Even if I was having a hard day at work or if I was stressed, Britney just always brought the energy that I needed to make me cheerful… and I think that's so important in a partnership,” she explained.
This emotional shift helped Marita see that she had been holding on to a relationship that no longer matched her energy.
Reflecting on her journey in The Ultimatum: Queer Love, she said:
“I was finally able to set myself free… and go find that energy that's within me again.”
Since filming, Marita has gone back to making music and said she is the “happiest, healthiest version” of herself. While Britney is now engaged to AJ, both Marita and Britney said the friendship and understanding they gained during their time together still mean a lot to them.
