Holmes Family Rescue star Mike Holmes Jr. and Lisa Grant tied the knot in a heartfelt outdoor ceremony in Ontario’s Blue Mountains in August 2017. In an exclusive interview with Hello! Magazine, the couple shared their journey from teenage sweethearts to newlyweds.

Lisa, a holistic health coach, reflected on a moment from their youth, saying,

“I remember it so vividly. At 18, I said to him, ‘I think you’re going to be the father of my children one day.’”

Mike Jr., the son of contractor and television host Mike Holmes, began dating Lisa Grant when they were teenagers.

While the couple broke up they re-established their relationship years later. In 2016, Mike proposed her while they were in Ottawa, which was captured on camera as part of their renovations series, Holmes & Holmes.

The couple got married at the cottage of Dragons’ Den star Arlene Dickinson, with close family and friends in attendance. Lisa walked barefoot down the aisle, while Mike wore a Hugo Boss tuxedo and cufflinks gifted by his father.

They called the day a celebration of love and family, filled with personal and meaningful details.

Holmes Family Rescue star's wedding featured personal vows and a nature-inspired setting

The wedding had a “secret garden” theme and took place outdoors, showing Lisa’s love for nature. She even went barefoot during the vows to feel more connected to the moment.

“We figured that we’re going to do it in our style,” Mike said, explaining how they wanted the wedding to reflect their own style instead of following tradition.

As seen in their approach to family renovations on Holmes Family Rescue, family played a key role during the ceremony. Both mothers read poems, and Mike and Lisa wrote and recited personal poems to each other.

Lisa’s lace dress included a tribute to her grandfather, a sewn-in wedding band over her heart, and she wore a gold necklace gifted by her grandmother.

“I felt like my grandparents were with me,” she said.

Mike wore cufflinks from his father, part of a wedding-day tradition passed down through generations.

The couple also recalled how the weather shifted just in time for the ceremony.

“The sun just came out and was glistening over everyone,” Mike shared.

Lisa noted a similar moment as she arrived:

“The clouds parted and the sun came out.”

Mike admitted to crying when he saw Lisa. Lisa said they locked eyes throughout the vows, only looking away to avoid smudging her makeup.

Reception celebrations and family values echo Holmes Family Rescue's message

The night carried on with an outdoor reception and an after-party at Mike and Lisa's home. Mike said it was "an incredible party!" There was dancing under the stars, and the festivities carried on until 5 a.m.

The atmosphere was what the couple envisioned, filled with love, happiness and closeness.

Before the ceremony, Holmes Family Rescue star Mike sent Lisa a handwritten letter with a friend to pass on to her. The letter expressed his feelings for her and both excitement and nervousness about the evening ahead.

The gesture reflected the thoughtful values seen in Mike’s on-screen work with his family on Holmes Family Rescue.

After the wedding, the couple reflected on how their relationship has matured. Lisa mentioned that even though she felt married after the proposal, the public occasion, made it more official.

    .Mike echoed her thoughts, saying,

“It’s like our love has grown somehow, our bond has grown.”

Mike also shared marriage advice passed down by his father, Mike Holmes Sr.: always prioritize each other, don’t argue over small things, and never go to bed angry.

These principles, he said, form the basis for a healthy marriage.

Discussing the strength of their relationship, Mike said,

“We’re best friends. We always make sure we have fun, first and foremost.”

Their wedding, like their work on Holmes Family Rescue, was centered on family, trust, and creating lasting foundations, both emotionally and symbolically.
