Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert's eldest son, Tyler, is facing child abuse charges. According to Westword, which first reported the news, records at the Windsor Police Department show the citation stemmed from an incident that took place on Friday, July 11, 2025.
While the exact details have not been made public, the outlet relayed that the charge was "criminal negligence where no death or injury occurred." In light of the development, Boebert shared a statement with Newsweek, defending her son. She explained that the incident involved a "miscommunication" that ended in her grandson "getting out of (their) house," adding:
"Tyler has been doing a great job getting his life on track as a father and citizen over the past year."
Meanwhile, he is set to appear in court this September for the charge.
Lauren Boebert shares four sons with her ex-husband, Jayson - Tyler, Brody, Kaydon, and Roman. In March 2023, she announced she was set to become a grandmother at a CPAC event, with Tyler, then 17, welcoming his son a month later.
Lauren Boebert is a politician, gun rights activist, and businesswoman. She is currently serving as a U.S. representative for Colorado and has been a member of the Republican Party since 2008.
On the personal front, she met Jayson Boebert when he visited the McDonald’s where she was working at. According to Lauren's memoir, My American Life (2022), at the time, she was 16 and he was 22. They began dating soon after, and four months after their meeting, the pair traveled to Las Vegas to get married. Per Lauren, they "decided to start a family" by summer 2004. She asserted they didn't move too fast, adding:
"Make no mistake: this was no shotgun wedding. Jayson and I intentionally wanted to get married and start our new life together."
The pair have since welcomed four sons, all born and raised in Colorado. Lauren Boebert has credited her children as an inspiration behind her pursuing a career in politics. It is worth noting that Lauren filed for a divorce in May 2023.
Tyler, her eldest, was born in March 2005. Lauren was only 18, studying at Rifle High School, when she had him. She dropped out to focus on being a mother. He followed in his mother's footsteps, welcoming his son, Josiah, with his girlfriend in April 2023, according to People magazine.
In a March 2023 interview with The Rubin Report, Lauren Boebert revealed Tyler intended to finish his studies and planned on taking a petroleum engineering course at the Colorado Mountain College Rifle. During a separate conversation with The Denver Post, she noted that she was proud of both Tyler and his girlfriend for "being responsible for their situation." She added:
"They made the right choice. Nothing was forced on them. This is a decision they made on their own."
She elaborated that Tyler was "excited" to be a father.
This is not his first run-in with the law. Last February, police arrested the 20-year-old for multiple property thefts and vehicle trespasses-related charges. He eventually pleaded guilty to one count of identity theft, with the rest of the charges being dismissed. Courts sentenced him to a 24-month probation.
According to the NY Post, Tyler flipped his father's SUV back in September 2022. The incident ended in the passenger having multiple concussions and severe lacerations. Prosecutors initially charged him with reckless driving, but it was dropped after it was discovered the car had "defective" headlights.
Lauren Boebert's second son, Brody, was born in 2007. In her memoir, she explained that she didn't let the pregnancy (or his birth) keep her away from her job at an energy company. She noted that she only took four weeks of parental leave. According to Lauren's Instagram page, Brody is an athlete, participating in several sports, including football, track, and long jump.
Kaydon was born in July 2009. According to People magazine, Lauren Boebert went into labor in the middle of the night and ended up delivering him in the front seat of her husband's vehicle. Boebert has kept Kaydon out of the public spotlight. However, her social media posts suggest he likes playing sports, especially basketball and baseball. Meanwhile, Lauren Boebert's youngest son, Roman, is 11. He, too, makes sporadic appearances on her Instagram.
