Krispy Kreme has come out with a new, short-term line named "Hungry for Heroes." This line is for those who love comic books and want a sweet treat. They are paying a nod to three big DC stars: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
They didn't just keep to the old glaze or small bits of colored sugar. Each doughnut in this set shows off styles and tops that show off the colors and signs of these heroes, making each bite a fun nod to these stars. Made with Warner Bros. Discovery, this themed set is part of Krispy Kreme's work to mix pop life with its well-known treats.
Krispy Kreme has been infusing a touch of heroism to its menu by offering a specialty line of D.C.-themed doughnuts, which places a tongue-in-cheek take on the most popular superheroes in the world.
As opposed to its traditional flavors and looks, the brand has taken each to the extreme by creating colorful design and flavored fillings: in the Superman iteration, a puffy white Kreme stares you out of an unglazed shell, rolled in sky-blue-colored icing and finished up with buttercream clouds, sprinkles, and an edible image reminding you of the Man of Steel.

To fans of Batman, there is a black delight filled with cookies & Kreme, slathered with black chocolate icing, and topped with the original Bat sign. Wonder Woman has her own cup cake, an Original Glazed reinvented with red raspberry as icing and topped with white stars and blue sprinkles, and the Wonder Woman logo and belt of gold.
These can be picked up in-store, pre-ordered by anyone on the Krispy Kreme app. Between July 24 and 27, with some purchase in-store, customers will be able to enjoy a free "Hungry for Heroes doughnut" with their purchase as long as supplies last, by celebrating their favorite DC hero (one doughnut per customer).
This heroic rollout is hot on the heels of the recent Pac-Man partnership Krispy Kreme did with Bandai Namco, with the chain showing a tendency to lean on pop culture nostalgia as a way to make its products even sweeter.
Krispy Kreme's recent deal on superhero-themed doughnuts is a fresh, light-hearted take on the timeless baked good using the famous imagery and colors of the most renowned comic book heroes of the DC universe.
Superman Doughnut is the sweet surprise, with its puffing unglazed crust bursting with creamy white Kreme, which is marinated with sky-blue icing and sprinkled with fluffy clouds of Superman buttercream, which brings out the heroic charm of the Man of Steel.
At the same time, the Batman Doughnut embraces the gloomier tone of Gotham by including the delicious cookies & Kreme filling encapsulated in a dark chocolate coat and then decorated with the immediately recognizable bat icon as a finishing touch.
Dave Skena, Chief Growth Officer at Krispy Kreme, in a news release, shared:
"We can’t promise you’ll reach Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman level by bringing a dozen doughnuts to the office or your next get-together, but you will be a hero."
Wonder Woman Doughnut completes the triumvirate, an homage to the Krispy Kreme Original Glazed covered in dazzling red raspberry icing with a sprinkling of white stars and blue icing, finished with her familiar logo and her own famed golden belt to the texture and taste, unrestrained by time, but uniting with her superhero image, as approachable as it is marvelous.
The responses to the new launch have been mixed all over online, with individuals expressing vastly different opinions on social media. Other fans look forward to the artistic twist and a nostalgic vibe, celebrating the playful design solutions and clips to beloved characters.
Other critics, though, believe that the themed doughnuts are all style over substance, whether it is worth their money, or even meets the same quality standard as Krispy Kreme. In the dialogue, there is consensus about the fact that the special promotion is a smart idea to attract people, even though it is not shared by all.
In general, the launch has resulted in a lot of debate:
