Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake is a spin off from Pendleton Ward’s Adventure Time, the Cartoon Network series that blended quirky humour, emotional depth and a post apocalyptic world called the Land of Ooo. Developed by Adam Muto for Max this young adult series centres on Fionna Campbell, a human and her magical cat Cake.
Season 2 premieres October 23 2025, on Max with 10 episodes released weekly through December 25 promising more multiverse chaos and heartfelt stakes.
Originally gender swapped versions of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog, Fionna and Cake began as the Ice King’s fan fiction within the original show. Their standalone series launched in 2023, turned them into stars. In Season 1, Fionna (Madeleine Martin) and Cake (Roz Ryan) lived mundane lives in a magic free city until Simon Petrikov, no longer the Ice King (Tom Kenny) accidentally sent them to Ooo.
Pursued by the Scarab, a cosmic enforcer bent on erasing their universe, they hopped through alternate realities. Fionna grappled with her identity, Simon mourned his lost love Betty, and a bombshell dropped: Prismo hid Fionna’s universe in Simon’s mind. By the finale, Fionna restored magic to her world, finding it in her friendships.
Season 2 picks up with Fionna and Cake diving into fresh adventures in Ooo summoned by Huntress Wizard (Ashly Burch) for a mission that Max’s logline calls a desperate quest with fatal consequences. The duo will protect their city friends from new threats while navigating Ooo’s magical mayhem, including trips to the Candy Kingdom. The plot leans into season 1’s mix of high stakes action and emotional growth with Fionna balancing her newfound magic against challenges that test her bonds.
The trailer is a 90-second whirlwind which created a buzz among the fans. It shows Fionna and Cake alongside a battle hardened adult Finn (Jeremy Shada) and Farmworld Finn, a grittier alternate version from Adventure Time. A playful flirtatious dynamic appears to exist between Fionna and DJ Flame, a new character suggesting that there may be a romantic relationship. Many people will enjoy watching Marceline played by Olivia Olson and Princess Bubblegum played by Hynden Walch since there is a fair amount of chemistry between the two characters from the Candy Kingdom.
There are hints of mysterious characters called "Baby Finn" calling back some time line elements and Huntress Wizard has her own forest look suggesting she might go through some challenges. The trailer keeps up the mix of humor like Cake's ability to stretch to darker implications like friends being taken away from the city. Overall this continues Muto's style of balancing whimsicality with stakes.
The voice cast is a blend of returning stars and new talent. Madeleine Martin’s Fionna captures a young woman’s grit and vulnerability, building on her roles in Californication and Hemlock Grove. Roz Ryan’s Cake is a standout with her playful energy that echoes her work in The Looney Tunes Show and Hercules: Zero to Hero.
Ashly Burch brings intensity to Huntress Wizard, a character with a past romantic tie to Finn in Adventure Time distinct from her Life is Strange roles. Maria Bamford who voiced Huntress in the original series takes a new undisclosed role adding intrigue.
Core Adventure Time voices return with Finn, Hynden Walch and Olivia Olson as Marceline, each grounding the show in Ooo’s legacy. Guest stars elevate the season including Marc Maron, Kumail Nanjiani and Manny Jacinto. Also Dee Bradley Baker, Harvey Guillén, Chelsea Peretti and Jinkx Monsoon join the cast.
Pendleton Ward voices Lumpy Space Prince, tying the spin off to its roots. Additional cast like Anna Akana, Matthew Broderick and Vico Ortiz round out a lineup that delivers humour, heart and chaos under Cartoon Network Studios’ production.
Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake Season 2 streams exclusively on Max starting October 23, 2025 with new episodes every Thursday through December 25.
