New! Listen to our weekly View in Review podcast.
A very merry View to all, and to all a good night. This morning, The View got into the holiday spirit with a Christmas spectacular featuring appearances from Andy Grammer and Darlene Love, holiday Hot Topics, a Hawaiian shirt-wearing Santa, and an Oprah-style vacation giveaway. The holiday special, which was taped earlier this week, serves as The View's last episode of the year, though encore broadcasts will air until the co-hosts return on Monday, January 3, 2022.
The View's first holiday Hot Topic wasn't anything to write home about — the ladies discussed Kim Kardashian going all-out for the holidays, and how it stacks up with their own level of commitment — but things got more exciting when Santa Claus himself arrived on a sleigh to serve the co-hosts (virgin) drinks. Whoopi and Sara Haines used Santa's Hawaiian shirt as an in to deliver yet a surprise: members of the studio audience were being treated to a complimentary three-day stay at an Aruban resort. Talk about a great gift!
The Christmas spectacular continued with a few more Hot Topics — during which Joy Behar revealed she gives her grandson cash as a gift, which is very on brand — and a segment about the co-hosts' favorite gifts under $50 before Andy Grammer took the stage to perform "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
Grammer's performance proved to be the last of the day, as Darlene Love, who has performed "Christmas, Baby Please Come Home" for six years on The View, called in via satellite to explain that she won't be able to make it this year, as one of her band members tested positive for COVID-19. In place of the live song, the show aired a highlight reel from Love's previous six performances, with the music serving as a soundtrack to holiday-themed closing credits.
Take a little time to enjoy the holidays, everyone!
