The death of actor Gary Coleman is being re-examined in a new docuseries by A&E Network, Lie Detector: Truth or Deception. In the series’ first episode, which will premiere on July 10, Shannon Price, Coleman’s ex-wife will be seen undertaking a lie detector test and answering questions related to the actor’s tragic fall which resulted in his death in 2010.

Gary Coleman’s net worth was $75,000 at the time of his death, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Despite being the highest paid child actor during his appearance on the NBC sitcom, Diff'rent Strokes during the late 70s and early 80s, Coleman lost his wealth by the age of 30, and worked as a security guard, as per Inside Edition.

In 1999, Coleman had filed for bankruptcy protection, as per E! News. The news outlet also noted at the time that Coleman’s net worth was $7 million in 1990, but the actor’s finances took a tumble due to legal conflicts with his adoptive parents and lifelong medical issues springing from his kidney disfunction, as a result of which he underwent two kidney transplants.

Why did Gary Coleman’s ex-wife take a lie detector test?

Gary Coleman succumbed to a fall at his Utah residence in 2010, which he shared with his former wife, Shannon Price despite getting divorced. As per New York Post, Coleman, who suffered an intracranial hemorrhage, was not accompanied to the hospital by Price.

The publication noted that Coleman, who was put in a medically induced coma, was removed from life support by Price after two days.

In a documentary on the actor, titled Gary, which was released in 2024 by Peacock, multiple people close to the late actor spoke out about the circumstances surrounding his death, noted New York Post. Anna Gray, an ex-girlfriend of Coleman, questioned Price’s actions after Coleman fell, as per the publication. In the documentary, Price herself noted that many people accused her of being responsible for Coleman’s death.

Now, 15 years after Coleman’s tragic death, Price underwent a voluntary lie detector test in an attempt to clear her name.

As per People Magazine, during the first episode of Lie Detector: Truth or Deception, Price was questioned by former FBI agent George Olivo, who discussed the lie detector test’s results. Revealing that Price had failed the test, Olivo said,

“I'm not going to say that you passed that test, because you didn’t.”

People Magazine noted that Price was asked three questions, and two of her answers proved to be inconclusive. The publication reported that Olivo, who had asked Price if she caused Coleman’s fall, said,

“You failed the exam regarding Gary's fall. There’s two things I know for sure, Shannon. One, you were not completely honest with me yesterday during this polygraph section. And two, the other thing I know that's 100% certain, is that there is more to this story that hasn't been told. The body never lies. The body always tells the truth. And your body on that lie detector test spoke loud and clear, there's something that caused you to fail this test.”

While Shannon Price failed the test related to Gary Coleman’s death, she emphasized that a legal investigation had cleared her name, as per People Magazine.
