The obsession with true crime isn’t going away, even as new entries into the genre highlight just how that preoccupation can ruin people’s lives. But with Crime Nation, The CW aims to bring the search for justice to the fore, along with uncovering new details about the cases that captured national attention.

The Delphi murders, the Lori Vallow Daybell case, the Gabby Petito murder, and the Gilgo Beach murders will all be re-examined in weekly two-hour installments. The Crime Nation team has also obtained exclusive on-camera interviews with experts and journalists who were on the frontlines of coverage, all to add new dimensions to ripped-from-the-headlines stories. Primetimer is previewing the new series, which premieres February 20 at 8:00 PM ET on The CW, with this exclusive clip.

Crime Nation also ventures into the sidelines, where amateur sleuths pore over details, trying to find something that investigators have missed. While they could very easily serve as examples of the broader true-crime obsession, some of these “digital detectives” have actually helped solve cases. Their work is featured here, as Crime Nation delves into cold cases and some that are still unfolding.

This new true-crime and justice anthology, from Candle Media's Candle True Stories and James Goldston, marks The CW’s latest venture into unscripted programming. Candle True Stories tapped the former ABC News President to head up a new nonfiction studio in February 2023. Previously, Goldston oversaw several podcast and documentary projects for Hulu and Disney+ — one of the most notable was the award-winning podcast The Dropout, which eventually became a Hulu series.

Danette Chavez is the Editor-in-Chief of Primetimer and its biggest fan of puns.
