The Bachelor Matt James on the U.S. Capital siege: "We're living in two different Americas" with different police treatment for white and minority rioters

"Yesterday, as we watched riots take place inside our Capitol we’re reminded yet again we’re living in two different Americas," the first Black Bachelor tweeted this morning. I'm praying for America in 2021, and to say nothing is saying something." As the Los Angeles Times' Greg Braxton and Amy Kaufman point out, James' comments are unusual since Bachelor and Bachelorettes tend to avoid making political statements, adding: "Traditionally, the show’s leads tend to avoid expressing their political beliefs while their seasons are on the air. The emphasis of the franchise is on romantic love, often sidestepping or downplaying topical issues." ALSO: Records show James was a registered Republican, but had no party affiliation while filming The Bachelor.
