Love Island UK continues to generate headlines as former contestant Josh Ritchie shared strong opinions about current Islander Shakira Khan.

In a video posted on July 26, 2025, and reported by The Sun, Josh responded to a moment from the show in which Shakira, while sitting on the villa stairs with Harry, made a comment about struggling to go to Aldi after the series, implying concerns about being recognized in public.

Josh, who appeared on the original 2015 series and more recently on Love Island: All Stars, reacted on social media, saying, “She can’t say that,” and suggested that Shakira’s assumption about future fame was inappropriate.

He emphasized that the issue wasn’t about shopping at Aldi itself, but about the belief that she would become “mega famous.”

The moment came during a turbulent week for Shakira, who reportedly asked to leave the villa after ending things with Conor and watching Harry go exclusive with Helena.

The Sun reported that she sought support from the show’s 24/7 duty of care team, ultimately deciding to remain in the villa after a period of emotional distress.

During a recent episode of Love Island UK, Shakira was seen telling Harry that she might not even be able to go to Aldi after the show, hinting at the kind of attention she might receive due to her appearance on television.

Reacting to this, Josh Ritchie shared his response in a TikTok video, where he appeared visibly uncomfortable and wrapped himself in a blanket while addressing the comment.

    He told his followers:

“Shakira has not just said, ‘I wonder what life is going to be like after, I can’t even go to Aldi.’”

Josh added that he personally had no issue with Aldi, having shopped there himself, but took issue with the implication that Shakira expected a high level of fame.

“It’s not the fact of shopping at Aldi… but it’s the fact that she thinks that she’s going to be famous. You can’t say that.”

Josh concluded his reaction by calling the comment “f****d up,” appearing surprised and disappointed by what he perceived as overconfidence.

His video quickly circulated online and became part of broader discussions about Shakira’s portrayal and behavior on the show.

Shakira reportedly wanted to leave Love Island UK amid emotional week

The same week the Aldi comment aired, Shakira faced several challenges inside the Love Island UK villa.

According to The Sun, she ended her connection with Conor after realizing she was not emotionally ready, especially in light of Harry officially coupling up with Helena.

Following this decision, she reportedly had a breakdown in the beach hut and requested to exit the show.

    A source told The Sun:

“Shakira has been through the wringer and was already at breaking point over her heartbreak by Harry.”

After seeing him go exclusive with another Islander, her emotions reportedly overwhelmed her in the Love Island villa.

“She did the brave thing by ending that [with Conor], but then the floodgates opened,” the source said.

She turned to the show’s duty of care team for support and spent hours off-screen processing her feelings.

Eventually, Shakira chose to stay in the villa. The sequence of events highlighted the emotional pressures of the show, especially for contestants involved in complex love triangles.

This series of events added to ongoing viewer discussions, with many debating whether Shakira had received an unfavorable “edit” or was simply navigating an emotionally intense experience under public scrutiny.
