In Our Blood is an American found footage horror film set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025. Directed by Pedro Kos, an award-winning documentary filmmaker making his horror debut, the movie is written by Mallory Westfall and runs for eighty-nine minutes. The film had its world premiere on the opening night of the Fantasia International Film Festival on July 31, 2024, where it received overwhelmingly positive reception for being a thought-provoking commentary on the found footage genre, along with its emotional depth.
The story follows Emily Wyland (Brittany O'Grady), a filmmaker who asks cinematographer Danny (E.J. Bonilla) to record her reunion with her biological mother after not seeing her for a decade. When her mother disappears without a trace, possibly related to her past substance abuse, Emily and Danny begin to uncover horrific evidence that suggests something much more disturbing.
Shot in New Mexico, the film is produced by Liberty Films and Revelations Entertainment, with Duncan Jones and Morgan Freeman serving as executive producers. Kos’ documentary expertise and Westfall’s sharp script make In Our Blood a standout in the horror genre, blending family drama with chilling suspense.
The cast of In Our Blood brings the story to life with strong performances. Brittany O’Grady plays Emily Wyland, a driven filmmaker whose personal documentary project turns into a nightmare. O’Grady, known for It’s What’s Inside, captures Emily’s mix of hope and desperation. E.J. Bonilla, seen in Gemini Man, portrays Danny, the cinematographer who stays by Emily’s side as they chase leads. His grounded presence balances the escalating tension.
Krisha Fairchild, recognized from Penelope, plays Emily’s mother whose troubled past and sudden disappearance drive the mystery. Alanna Ubach, known for Euphoria delivers an intense supporting role, adding emotional weight. The ensemble also includes Leo Marks, Bianca Comparato and Steven Klein. Their performances make the characters relatable, grounding the horror in real human connections.
In Our Blood starts with Emily Wyland filming a documentary about reconnecting with her mother who she hasn’t seen in a decade due to addiction issues. She enlists Danny to capture the journey but their project takes a dark turn when her mother goes missing. The trailer displays shaky, handheld video clips of their first interviews along with unsettling images, desolate rooms, cryptic notes written on paper and passing shadowy figures. As Emily and Danny do their research, they find clues that suggest her mother’s disappearance is not simply a case of addiction, but may be indicative of a potentially supernatural danger.
An ominous score by Gil Talmi supports the trailer, quick scene transitions to create suspense and a documentary-style film technique by Kos to retain a sense of authenticity. Westfall’s script adds in some red herrings and twists to keep the viewer guessing. Reviews from Fantasia 2024 have praised the film for its intelligent pacing and balance of emotional family drama and horror, building a suspenseful mystery through the characters.
In Our Blood will be released in theatres across the United States on October 24, 2025, distributed by Utopia.
