Over his seven-decade-long career in Hollywood, Clint Eastwood has earned recognition as an actor, director, and producer. Last year, he directed Juror #2, a legal thriller starring Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, J.K. Simmons, and Kiefer Sutherland in the lead roles. Although the movie bombed at the box office, it was named one of the best movies of 2024.
Even in his 90s, Clint Eastwood is showing no signs of stopping, but what is the secret behind his long and healthy life? In a tell-all book titled Clint: The Man and the Movies, released in June 2025, popular celebrity biographer Shawn Levy bared some of the keys to the Academy Award-winning filmmaker's health and longevity.
In his book, Levy wrote that Clint Eastwood is a "lifelong gym rat and fitness freak". Eastwood does not depend on pricey supplements, experimental anti-aging treatments, or trendy meal plans. Instead, he has adopted a low-fat diet along with low-impact exercise.
Contrary to the rumors of his death that spread like wildfire, Clint Eastwood is alive and celebrated his 95th birthday on May 31, 2025. He began his acting career in 1959 with the Western TV series Rawhide. In 1964, he starred in his first leading role in A Fistful of Dollars, which was a cornerstone in the development of spaghetti Westerns. The last movie starring him was 2021's Cry Macho.
In 1971, Eastwood made his directorial debut with Play Misty for Me. He was awarded the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1996. His movie Million Dollar Baby won four of the seven Academy Awards, and American Sniper won one of the six Academy Award nominations.
Eastwood was very young when he lost his father to cardiovascular disease. So, his journey to a healthy life began early. According to Hello! In an Article published in July 2025, the Dollars Trilogy star told a friend:
"Losing him made me realize life can be short. If you don’t look after yourself, you might not have time for the things you love."
Eastwood's meal plan includes lean protein sources, such as salmon and chicken, and a lot of broccoli and asparagus, as well as dark, leafy green vegetables. He also does his best to keep his carbohydrate intake reduced and swaps sugary drinks with water. This helps keep his mind clear and keeps his energy level steady.
Eastwood follows the example of “Blue Zone” communities—regions known for their high number of centenarians—by emphasizing low-impact, daily physical activity. Additionally, his routine comprises Transcendental Meditation. Levy wrote:
"Clint has practiced TM twice a day since the 1970s. He’ll slip into a quiet corner between takes on a shoot or carve out a few minutes before lunch—mantra in mind, eyes closed, completely still."
He continued:
"His movies are all about clenched jaws and high‑octane standoffs, yet here he is, a man of contradictions, sitting in lotus position on a dusty Western set."
Eastwood has let go of heavy barbells in favor of exercises that contribute to proper form and functional strength. Shawn Levy wrote that the actor builds his body like a house, rep by rep.
