America's Got Talent aired a new episode on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, and one act had the judges shocked.

Contestants Darien Johnson and Scott Mathison performed a strength-based act that took a surprising turn when they asked judges Mel B and Sofia Vergara to take part in it.

The two performers, who are known for sharing fitness videos on social media, built a gym-like setup onstage.

But instead of a normal workout, they started throwing heavy weights over each other’s heads. Then they asked Mel B and Sofia Vergara to join them, without saying what they’d be doing.

The two judges were told to stand back-to-back. The men then began throwing barbells over their heads while the judges stood in the middle.

Sofia looked nervous and said, “I don’t want to be here.” Mel B, eyes closed, asked her to “hold my hand.”

After the stunt, Sofia called it “so scary,” and Mel B told the men, “What you do is proper. Fit and hot.”

Even with the fear, all four judges gave them a yes. The duo now moves on to the next round. The act stood out for its mix of strength, surprise, and audience reaction.

On America's Got Talent, Darien Johnson and Scott Mathison took the stage with a gym setup. They said they met online through their workout videos, which have been viewed millions of times.

For their America's Got Talent audition, they decided to show off their strength and teamwork.

At first, they threw heavy weights over each other’s heads, which already impressed the judges.

But then they made a surprise request, they asked Mel B and Sofia Vergara to join them onstage. The judges didn’t know what they were getting into and were simply told to stand back-to-back.

As the judges stood still, Johnson and Mathison started tossing heavy barbells over their heads, six times. The weights passed very close to the judges, and both women looked very nervous. Sofia said, “I don’t want to be here,” and Mel B asked her to “hold my hand” while keeping her eyes shut.

Simon Cowell made a joke to Howie Mandel, asking,

“If you had to lose one, which one would it be?”

Judges’ reactions and what comes next

Following the performance, the judges shared their thoughts in America's Got Talent. Sofia Vergara said the experience was a first for her on the show, adding that it “looks really hard” and that “looking at your bodies, I can tell.”

Mel B repeated that the act was “proper” and praised the strength shown by the duo. Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel were also impressed. Mandel noted,

“It’s a strength act. It’s an agility act. It inspires people to be in shape. I think you checked a lot of boxes. I loved it.”

With four yes votes from the judges, Johnson and Mathison moved forward in the competition.

Their act will now compete against other performers in the upcoming rounds, including those involving roller-skating stunts and knife-throwing.

The episode highlighted the variety of acts the show continues to feature as it moves toward the live shows, which begin on August 19, 2025.

The duo’s performance stood out not just for its strength and coordination but also for including the judges in a way that caused surprise and concern.

It added an unpredictable element to the night and reminded viewers why America's Got Talent remains a popular platform for unique and daring talent.
