Issa Rae and HBO Max Showcase Female Rappers in Rap Sh!t Trailer

The comedy follows two estranged high school friends who form a rap group.
  • Issa Rae is back in the HBO game.

HBO Max has released the official trailer for Rae's newest comedy series, Rap Sh!t. The series follows two estranged high school friends, Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), who reunite to form a rap group.

The trailer, which features an introduction from creator and producer Rae, shows that Rap Sh!t will not only offer whip-smart comedy, but also a realistic look at navigating the world of rap music as women.

The Rap Sh!t trailer previews Shawna's internal battle between wanting a successful rap career and ensuring her art says something meaningful. "It's gotta be fun, sexy, in your face, you know?" Mia says. "It can be all those things, but my art is not for the male gaze," replies Shawna.

In addition to Osman and KaMillion, Rap Sh!t also stars Jonica Booth, Devon Terrell, and RJ Cyler.

The first two episodes of Rap Sh!t premiere July 21 on HBO Max. The remaining six episodes will be released weekly through September 1.
