There were 559 original scripted shows in primetime in 2021, a new all-time record

FX's annual tally reveals the number of scripted shows -- which fell from 532 in 2019 to 493 amid the pandemic in 2020 -- rebounded to 559 in 2021. But, as Deadline explains, "there is a caveat — because so many series were delayed by the 2020 shutdown, there are shows that shifted to 2021, which may have inflated the total to surpass pre-pandemic levels."
