The Dropout's costume designer calls Elizabeth Holmes' black turtleneck a "facade" against Theranos' fakeness

Costume designer Claire Parkinson is close in age to both Holmes and her portrayer, Amanda Seyfried. So Parkinson was able to use her experience with fashion during that timeframe on the show. For the black turtlenecks, Parkinson considered recreating a vintage Issey Miyake turtleneck that the late Steve Jobs famously wore, and which Holmes tried to emulate. Instead, she settled on using lookalikes from Austrian company Wolford, with some alterations. “The black turtleneck, it’s like an armor,” says Parkinson. “It’s a facade against the fakeness of what’s happening in Theranos.” ALSO: Did Elizabeth Holmes really dance like that?
