TCM partners on a documentary on the long-lost Orson Welles cut of his classic 1942 film The Magnificent Ambersons

Turner Classic Movies is teaming with filmmaker Joshua Grossberg to finish his documentary on what many film historians consider the “Holy Grail” of film history: Welles' cut of his follow-up to Citizen Kane that got him fired by RKO Studios after reportedly disastrous test screenings. RKO Studios then took control of Welles' print and cut 43 minutes and shot new scenes, including a new ending. The Search for the Lost Print: The Making of Orson Welles’ The Magnificent Ambersons' release is timed for the film's 80th anniversary in 2022.
