Star Trek: Picard will send Jean-Luc Picard back to space, “but not in a way that anyone expects"

Executive producer Alex Kurtzman and showrunner Michael Chabon offered some details on what to expect from Patrick Stewart's return to the Star Trek universe. For one, Star Trek: Picard will be serialized, unlike Star Trek: The Next Generation. “Which isn’t necessarily new for Star Trek,” says Chabon, noting that Star Trek: Discovery is often serialized too, “but that is new for Picard.” Chabon also says the series won't shy away from Picard being older. "We’re dealing with a man who’s in a very different place in his life,” says Chabon. “It was terribly important to us that he remains fundamentally Picard,” says Kurtzman. Chabon adds: “The quality of Patrick’s acting, if anything, has gotten even better over time and he was already a master. He has an ability to hold you riveted even when he’s just sitting and listening.”
