Showtime orders a documentary marking the Attica prison rebellion's 50th anniversary

Stanley Nelson, director of The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution and American Experience's Freedom Summer and The Murder of Emmett Till documentaries will helm the documentary Attica on the deadly five-day September 1971 confrontation between prisoners and guards that has alternately called a riot and a rebellion. The uprising inspired Al Pacino's famous "Attica! Attica" chant in the movie Dog Day Afternoon. The film will be released in 2021 to mark Attica's 50th anniversary.
