Sammy Davis Jr. to get the TV miniseries treatment from Lee Daniels and Tom Hanks

A miniseries on the legendary dancer-singer-actor-musician is in development with the title Sammy. The project is expected to be based on Will Haygood's 2003 biography, Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis, Jr. Bringing Davis' story to the screen has been a longtime passion for Daniels, who was working on a Rat Pack movie for HBO in 2013. Daniels' production company is teaming with Hanks' production company, Playtone, which has a track record of producing Emmy-winning miniseries, including Band Of Brothers, The Pacific, John Adams and Olive Kitteridge.
