Robin Thede to star in HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show from Issa Rae

Thede is returning to television six months after BET canceled her late-night talk show The Rundown with Robin Thede. HBO has given a straight-to-series order for A Black Lady Sketch Show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Thede created the series and will star, write and exec produce the series alongside Issa Rae and her HBO-based Issa Rae Productions banner. The series will feature narrative sketches performed by a core cast of black women — including Thede — as well as celebrity guests. It is considered the first sketch comedy in TV history to be written by, directed by and starring an array of black women." Additionally, Thede has tapped Lauren Ashley Smith, her head writer on The Rundown, to also serve as head writer on A Black Lady Sketch Show.
