Ray Romano recalls getting rejected for a monologue writer job on Late Night with Conan O'Brien

In the new episode of the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, Conan brought up how Romano is part of an "esteemed group" with Stephen Colbert of successful comedians who were rejected after applying to his Late Night writing staff. "You're in the same club," said Conan. "Guys that somehow applied to write for me, and didn't end up getting the job...We keep racking up these names of amazing people that tried to write for me." Romano recalls that writer Louis CK was his "in" for the job interview, which Conan doesn't remember. "You have to admit you dodged a bullet," said Conan. "The worse thing that could've happened to you is you got that gig." Romano also recalled getting fired from NBC's NewsRadio.
