Oakland Ghost Ship warehouse fire TV series scrapped in response to backlash from victims' families

Literary couple Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman, who recently signed an overall deal with CBS TV studios, had planned to turn the tragic warehouse fire that killed 36 people in West Oakland in December 2016 into a limited TV series. News of the limited series was quickly met with outrage from the victims' families. Chabon and Waldman, who live in nearby Berkeley, responded to the backlash on Sunday, announcing they have scrapped their planned show. "These appeals have been heartbreaking to hear, and they have changed our minds," they said in a statement.
