Netflix's Wu Assassins could be Netflix's foothold into martial arts action shows

The new series, premiering Thursday, fronted by charismatic martial arts star Iko Uwais has terrific fight sequences, though its dialogue isn't so great. "There may be little unique about the premise or the production, but something more interesting lurks behind the series: Wu Assassins is what Netflix looks like when it reaches to find a new foothold in the coming streaming wars," says Peter Rubin. Wu Assassins, he adds, can also be seen as a sort of redemption for Marvel's Iron Fist, which drew controversy for having a white lead.
