NBC developing a female-led Zorro drama series from Robert Rodriguez, his sister Rebecca Rodriguez and Sofia Vergara

The classic masked vigilante character will be gender-swapped for NBC's contemporary reimagining. Robert Rodriguez and his sister Rebecca will pen the series with Rebecca serving as director. Vergara will serve as one of the executive producers. "Zorro centers on Sola Dominguez, an underground artist who  fights for social injustice as contemporary version of the mythical Zorro," per Deadline. Her life is threatened by several criminal organizations after she exposes them." This is the second attempt at a female-led Zorro series at NBC. Last year, a version by Alfredo Barrios Jr. from the same producers failed to get off the ground.
