Michael Shannon to play country music icon George Jones opposite Jessica Chastain in George & Tammy

Production on the six-episode Spectrum Originals limited series is scheduled to begin Wednesday in North Carolina, 15 months after Chastain was announced as playing country music legend Tammy Wynette. George & Tammy delves into the rollercoaster marriage of the country music supercouple. "I’m told Shannon will do his own singing to capture the vocals of Jones, and Chastain will do the same in singing the standards of Wynette, who’s best known for her hit 'Stand by Your Man,'" reports Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr. George & Tammy will premiere on Spectrum Originals, followed by a second window on Paramount+ and the Paramount Network. Created by Abe Sylvia, George & Tammy is based on the book The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George, written by the couple’s daughter, Georgette Jones. Shannon is coming off of starring in Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers.
