Lucifer taps Dennis Haysbert to play God, reuniting him with his 24 brother

Haysbert will appear throughout the fifth and final season of the Netflix series as God, the father of Tom Ellis' rebellious Lucifer and his angelic brother (and God’s favorite son) Amenadiel, played by D.B. Woodside. Haysbert and Woodside previously co-starred on 24 as brothers (and presidents) David and Wayne Palmer. In fact, Woodside helped Lucifer recruit Haysbert to the show, says co-showrunner Joe Henderson. “D.B. had actually come up to us and said, ‘Have you thought about Dennis?’ We were like, ‘Do you think he’d actually do it?’ And he’s like, ‘Well, I’ve already talked to him and sort of brought it up,'" says Henderson. "And so we just went straight on at him." Haysbert says one of the reasons he took the part was the chance to reunite with his 24 brother. “Every time I see D.B., there’s always this fondness and this connection," Haysbert tells EW. "...We worked on a show that was arguably one of the best shows ever produced in television, so you’re going to have a kind of camaraderie." Haysbert added jokingly: “I don’t know how I went from brothers to father. We’re celestial. We can do that.”
