HBO responds to a Lovecraft Country extra's allegation her skin was darkened with makeup: "This should not have happened"

The extra, Kelli Amirah, alleges in a TikTok video that she was cast to briefly appear in an episode playing a younger version of a character. But in the makeup trailer, she was deemed too light-skinned. Amirah alleges that the makeup artists painted her foundation and hands in a darker tone. "I had no idea they were going to do this to me beforehand. And if I knew beforehand, I would not have accepted this job. Who thought this was a good idea?," she asked. HBO responded that it was "very disappointed," telling The Hollywood Reporter in a statement: "This should not have happened, and we are taking steps to ensure this doesn’t occur again in the future."
