Expect Harvey Weinstein to hover over every aspect of next year’s Oscar ceremony

  • “Barring a lapse in security, you won’t actually see him — Weinstein has been banished from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for sexual misconduct,” says Michael Cieply. “And you probably won’t hear his name from the stage. That will be confined to whispers in the multi-floor lobby of the Dolby Theater. But Weinstein will hover above virtually every segment of the show as if he had a seat in that sluggers’ row of stars up front.” As Cieply notes, Casey Affleck — who has his own sexual harassment controversy — is expected to return to present the best actor award. “Harvey will be there in spirit like Banquo’s ghost,” he says. “Because this year, finally, the Oscars are all about him.”

    • Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel on if he'll bring up Weinstein: “I probably will. It’s not really a laughing matter. There’ll be a lot of people in that room who maybe have been through experiences with him, and that’s not something I want them to relive on the night they get their Oscar. “
