Emily VanCamp returning to The Resident for its Season 5 finale

VanCamp will reprise her role as Nicolette "Nic" Nevin in the May 17 season finale, appearing in “four, maybe five” flashback scenes, The Resident co-showrunner co-showrunner Peter Elkoff tells TVLine. VanCamp exited The Resident after last season's finale. The show will use the flashbacks to help Matt Czuchry's Conrad Hawkins move on from Nic and pursue a romance with another woman. “We started to realize, what would hold a person back? Well, the love of his life who died. The mother of his young daughter,” says Elkoff. “We had to figure out a way to both free him and end that chapter. Emily was really up for the idea of coming back, so we built her story around that idea.”
