An ESPN employee likely took advantage of the video setup that Nichols uses in her hotel room to remotely tape The Jump to capture a private conversation she had with colleague. The video only recorded her voice. A four-minute excerpt of the 30-minute video was sent to Deadspin, which alerted ESPN. “We are extremely disappointed about the leak of a private conversation. It’s indefensible and an intrusion on Rachel’s privacy,” ESPN said in a statement. “As for the substance of the conversation, it is not reflective of our decision-making on staffing assignments for the NBA, which has largely been driven by the circumstances of the pandemic.”
