Allison Tolman's NBC thriller pilot Emergence gets a series order at ABC

The Fargo alum will star in a “character-driven genre thriller," playing a police chief who takes in a young child at the site of a mysterious accident, who has no memory of what happened. Emergence revolves around the investigation into the accident and the child's identity. Tolman will co-star with Donald Faison and Owain Yeoman. Why did an NBC pilot get picked up by ABC? Emergence being an ABC Studios-owned series helped a lot. Emergence "was bought by NBC instead of ABC last fall during the previous regime at the Disney-owned network," according to Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. "I hear the new top ABC executive team loved the pilot and when word came that NBC was not picking it up to series, they swooped in."
