AMC cancels Dietland after one season

The Marti Noxon-created dark comedy starring Julianna Margulies and Joy Nash never got big ratings, despite a slew of promotion for its June 4 premiere. Only about 537,000 total viewers watched the July 30 finale, despite AMC's efforts to turn Dietland into a summer event that included an Aisha Tyler-hosted Unapologetic companion show. "Among adults under 50, the ratings were even worse: A mere 158,000 viewers in the demo watched the finale," reports Josef Adalian. AMC issued a statement, announcing the cancelation, saying the show was “bold, original and brave," and noting that it had “garnered critical acclaim and passionate fans. We are beyond proud of our partnership with Marti Noxon, Joy Nash, Julianna Margulies, Skydance and everyone else involved in bringing Sarai Walker’s story to the screen.”
