A&E says Live PD footage from last year of a black man's violent death in police custody in Austin has been destroyed

The A&E reality show was filming in March 2019 when 40-year-old Javier Ambler died while deputies were trying to arrest him during a traffic stop in Texas. Ambler's death made headlines this week because Williamson County sheriff’s deputies released body cam footage of the incident. A&E released a statement confirming Tuesday that it did record footage of Ambler's, which never aired. A&E’s statement also said that investigators had not asked for the video or to interview show producers. “As is the case with all footage taken by Live PD producers, we no longer retained the unaired footage after learning that the investigation had concluded,” the network said in a statement.
