Disney+ Day, Red Notice, and The Shrink Next Door Lead a Busy Weekend

    Streaming TV is pulling out the big guns as we inch ever closer to Thanksgiving. On Friday Disney+ celebrates its second anniversary with a deluge of special programming, including the long-awaited Home Sweet Home Alone reboot, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and action-adventure Jungle Cruise. The streamer will also unveil a new The Simpsons short, preview upcoming Star Wars and Marvel content, and more.

    Also this weekend: The Rock, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds star in the Netflix original film Red Notice, Apple TV+ bows Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd’s The Shrink Next Door, Adele previews her new album in a two-hour CBS special, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg lets Amazon’s cameras follow his presidential campaign in a new documentary. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy on TV this weekend:

    FRIDAY NOVEMBER 12

    Home Sweet Home Alone: Original film. The beloved holiday film franchise gets a reboot in this adventure comedy about Max Mercer (Archie Yates), a mischievous boy who has been left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays. When a married couple (Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney) attempt to retrieve a priceless heirloom from the Mercer home, it’s up to Max to protect his turf and keep them out. Watch trailer.     Red Notice: Original film. When an Interpol-issued Red Notice — the highest level warrant reserved for the world’s most wanted — goes out, the FBI’s top profiler John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson) jumps on the case. But his global pursuit soon finds him in the middle of a daring heist, and he’s forced to partner with the world’s greatest conman (Ryan Reynolds) in order to catch the world’s most wanted art thief (Gal Gadot).     The Shrink Next Door: Series premiere. Inspired by true events, this dark comedy details the relationship between Dr. Ike Herschkopf (Paul Rudd), a psychiatrist to the stars, and his patient Marty Markowitz (Will Ferrell). Over the course of their relationship, Ike slowly worms his way into Marty’s life and begins manipulating him for his own gain. Three episodes drop today. Watch trailer. Streaming on Apple TV+

    Mayor Pete: Original documentary. Jesse Moss (Boys State) tracks Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, throughout his 2020 presidential run, revealing what really goes on inside a major campaign and how it changes the lives of those involved in it.     The Simpsons in Plusaversary!: Original short. The Simpsons host a party to celebrate Disney+ Day and everyone is invited… except Homer. The new short features characters from across the streaming service and classic Disney music. Streaming on Disney+

    Ciao Alberto: Original short. Fun-loving sea monster Alberto (Jack Dylan Grazer) hopes to prove himself to his stoic mentor, Massimo (Marco Barricelli), in this Luca-inspired short. Watch preview. Streaming on Disney+

    Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett: Original documentary. Ahead of The Book of Boba Fett premiere in December, Disney revisits the origins and legacy of Star Wars’ legendary bounty hunter in a new special. Watch preview. Streaming on Disney+

    Always Jane: Complete series. This four-part docuseries follows transgender teen Jane Noury and her family as she approaches her high school graduation and prepares to leave home for college. Watch trailer. Streaming on Amazon Prime Video

    Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: Disney+ debut. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), the master of Kung Fu, is forced to confront his past after he’s drawn into the villainous Ten Rings organization. The recent Marvel tentpole also stars Awkfafina, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, Tony Leung, and Ben Kingsley. Watch trailer. Streaming on Disney+

    Jungle Cruise: Disney+ debut. Inspired by the Disneyland theme park ride of the same name, an intrepid researcher (Emily Blunt) recruits a wisecracking skipper (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) to help her find an ancient tree with healing abilities, but they soon encounter innumerable dangers and supernatural forces in the lush Amazonian rainforest.     An Ice Wine Christmas: TV movie. Lifetime kicks off its annual holiday movie season with a drama about a wine sommelier (Roselyn Sánchez) who returns home for her small town’s Ice Wine Christmas Festival and connects with a wine specialist (Lyriq Bent) with lofty goals. 8:00 PM ET on Lifetime

    Murdered and Missing in Montana: Original documentary. Oxygen brings awareness to the ongoing crimes against Indigenous women in this 90-minute special about the mysterious deaths of three girls on and around the Northern Cheyenne and Crow Reservations. The special features interviews with the victims’ families, local law enforcement officers, and local activists seeking justice for the three young women. Watch trailer. 8:00 PM ET on Oxygen

    SATURDAY NOVEMBER 13

    Carole Baskin’s Cage Fight: Series premiere. Carole Baskin sets out to end the abuse of big cats in the United States, an effort that puts her and her team into direct confrontations with dangerous operators.     My Christmas Family Tree: TV movie. Hallmark gets in on the holiday movie fun with this drama about a woman who travels to her long-lost family’s home after she learns of their existence through a Family Tree DNA test. 8:00 PM ET on Hallmark Channel

    Blade Runner: Black Lotus: Series premiere. Adult Swim and Crunchyroll expand the world of the Blade Runner franchise in this animated series featuring voice work from Brian Cox, Josh Duhamel, Samira Wiley, Stephen Root, and Peyton List. Watch trailer. 12:00 AM ET on Adult Swim

    SUNDAY NOVEMBER 14

    Adele One Night Only: Special presentation. Adele previews her long-awaited fourth album in this two-hour CBS special that serves as the earliest opportunity to hear her first new material in six years.     Mayor of Kingstown: Series premiere. Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan helms this drama about the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. The series stars Dianne Wiest as the McLusky matriarch, and Jeremy Renner and Kyle Chandler as her sons.     Yellowjackets: Series premiere. When a plane carrying a high school soccer team crashes deep in the remote northern wilderness, the teenage girls form savage clans to survive. 25 years later, the women must piece together what happened in order to overcome the crash’s lingering effects. Starring Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Christina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis headline an inpressive ensemble cast. 10:00 PM ET on Showtime

    Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Season finale. John Oliver always makes it a point to go out with a bang, so how will he bid farewell to 2021 in the Season 8 finale?. 11:15 PM ET on HBO

    The Freak Brothers: Series premiere. A trio of stoners wake up from a 50-year nap and are forced to adjust to life with a new family in present-day San Francisco in Tubi’s first original animated series.
