HBO's Share Exposes the Isolating Power of a Connected World

Also: V.C. Andrews’ Casteel Saga, Widows, Rome in Love, The Vanilla Ice Project, SNL, and more
  • Emotions are high today, with our top TV picks examining hot-button social issues, violent family sagas, criminal misdeeds, infamous court trials, and... Vanilla Ice. Here are the highlights.

CABLE PREMIERE: HBO turns the spotlight on an all too real scenario faced by teens in today's social media minefield (an issue previously examined by documentaries like Audrie & Daisy). In the drama Share, Mandy (Rhianne Barreto) wakes after a night of partying that she cannot remember to learn that a murky video of her is being passed around the community, depicting what appears to be a sexual assault while she was unconscious. The film follows Mandy as she maneuvers the fallout from this personal invasion (both the video's release, and the unclear events it captures) and decides what she must do in order to reclaim control of her own life. Star Rhianne Barreto won the Sundance award for Achievement in Acting for her performance in this festival favorite. 10:00 PM ET on HBO

MINISERIES PREMIERE: Lifetime adapts V.C. Andrews’ Casteel Saga, the final book series by the author of Flowers in the Attic. Heaven, the first installment in the five part series follows the twisting, troubled path of the infamous Casteel family. Watch the preview. 8:00 PM ET on Lifetime

CABLE PREMIERE: HBO's big Saturday Night movie premiere this week is Widows. Director Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave) co-wrote this heist film with author Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl), in which four widows attempts to steal two million dollars in order to pay off debts their late husbands owed to a Chicago crime boss. Watch the trailer. 7:45 PM ET on HBO

TV MOVIE PREMIERE: Hallmark Channel takes viewers on a Roman holiday in Rome in Love, in which Italia Ricci (Designated Survivor) plays Amelia Tate, an up and coming actress who lands the role of a lifetime, shooting a film in Rome, while journalist Philip Hamilton (Peter Porte) writes a profile on her. Will The Eternal City make her professional and personal dreams come true? Based on the book by Anita Hughes. Watch the preview. 9:00 PM ET on Hallmark
