Jennifer Aniston Coped with Friends Ending by Getting a Divorce and Going to Therapy

"It worked great!"
  • On the final episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jennifer Aniston gave some advice to the daytime talk show host about saying goodbye to a wildly successful TV show.

Aniston was the first-ever guest on DeGeneres' premiere episode nearly 20 years ago, so it was only fitting that she help say goodbye in the series finale. When DeGeneres asked how the actress dealt with Friends' finale in 2004, Aniston reflected on how she navigated that period of her life.

"Well, I got a divorce and went into therapy," she said with a laugh. "Then I did a movie called The Breakup. I just kind of leaned into the end. I was like, 'You know what, guys? Let's just make this a completely new chapter. Let's just end everything and then start new.'"

Aniston's very public divorce from Brad Pitt was finalized in 2005, and although it was shocking for fans of the couple at the time, Aniston has no regrets. "It worked great!" she said with a relieved sigh, before telling DeGeneres, "Now, you and Portia... No, no." Portia De Rossi, who was there supporting her wife, has been married to DeGeneres since 2008.
