The number of Jeopardy! episodes Alex Trebek hosted is uncertain

Jeopardy! executive producer and interim guest-host Mike Richards kicked off Monday's show by saying Trebek hosted 8,244 episodes of the iconic game show. But as the author of the recently Jeopardy! book Answers in the Form of a Question Claire McNear points out, Trebek's "first episode was Episode 1; his last was Episode 8310. but he didn't host 8,310 episodes!" ALSO: Jeopardy! fans are calling on Mike Richards to become full-time host after just one episode.
