George Michael: Freedom glosses over one of the most important moments in Michael’s life and career — his arrest for “engaging in a lewd act,” an event that Michael detailed a few months later in an interview with David Letterman. “This event changed Michael’s public profile forever,” says Rich Juzwiak. “It told the world, definitively, that he was gay—up until then he’d only hinted at it.”
