Scrubs creator apologizes for blackface episodes, suggests they'll "probably" return to Hulu after some editing

Bill Lawrence joined Zach Braff and Donald Faison on their Scrubs podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends Monday, taking sole blame for the use of blackface on his 2001-10 hospital comedy. Last week, Hulu pulled three Scrubs episodes featuring blackface. “The reason why that word ‘showrunner’ exists in television is because you’re the gatekeeper, and anything that gets allowed on a show you ultimately have to take responsibility for,” Lawrence said, according to TVLine. “So, first off, super sorry that any of you guys had to deal with any stuff because… even though we’re all friends and it was a super creative and reciprocal environment, you guys still, at the end of the day, did and were receptive to doing whatever stuff we told you (to do).” Lawrence said knowing the episodes were still accessible "just made me feel sh*tty," so he had them yanked before he could edit them.
