Steele's lawsuit accuses ESPN of breaching her contract, violating her free-speech rights and retaliating against her over her controversial podcast comments last fall about Barack Obama, the vaccine and women. (ESPN says Steele was never suspended.) In 2017, however, Steele argued on The Dan Patrick Show that Kaepernick's opinions are fair game for NFL owners deciding not to hire him. "I just disagree with the whole premise of the issue that people have. Steve Bisciotti and the other 31 owners in this league, they run a business and they have a right to make the decision that is best for their business," Steele said at the time. "Just like Colin Kaepernick has the right to express his opinion and do what's best for him, for his brand, for his career. There's repercussions for both."
