Meet the man who claims to have invented The Apprentice

"My friends joke with me that I am the reason Donald Trump is president," says Mark Bethea. In 2000, Bethea registered his treatment for a business reality show called C.E.O. He even thought Trump should be its star. Years later when Mark Burnett made The Apprentice a success, Bethea sued and eventually won a settlement. There are, however, many origin stories for The Apprentice. Trump gave himself the bulk of the credit in his 2004 book, How to Get Rich.
