Jane Leeves joins Hannah Simone's ABC comedy pilot to play her mom

Leeves is joining Simone's semi-autobiographical comedy about her relationship with her father, who is of Indian descent, and her British mother. The Emmy-winning Frasier alum is currently starring on Fox's The Resident, but her casting on the untitled ABC comedy pilot doesn't mean she's exiting the medical drama, according to Deadline. If Simone's comedy is picked up to series, Leeves will return to The Resident on a recurring basis. If it's not picked up, Leeves will stay on the medical drama full-time. Leeves will play a "New Age-y type" mother who stuns her family by divorcing Simone's character's dad and announcing that "she has fallen in love with someone new…herself." The comedy will focus on Hannah and her Indian-American immigrant father who are "starting over together and each finding a new path. This new chapter will either make them crazy close — or just crazy."
