  • “The natural course of the show long ago turned Frank Underwood into a nearly unbearable character, a hardheaded man who would do anything to maintain his grip on power,” says Yohana Desta. “The show has also had to contort itself into all sorts of odd directions in order to ensure that Frank keeps winning. And while he began life as an enthralling political animal, that central conceit has worn thin, particularly over the course of the series’s past few seasons.” Desta adds that “Claire, by contrast, has long been the more alluring cipher of the two.”
