Grey's Anatomy boss admits to cutting a potential Meredith love interest in response to a casting leak

"Michael Ausiello (of TVLine) found out that we were casting a European scientist as a potential love interest for Meredith,” Vernoff tells EW. “When that got leaked, I went into the writers’ room and said, ‘That’s not interesting to me anymore. What else could this character be?’” Instead of a new love interest, Grey's Anatomy cast Rachel Ticotin as Meredith's mom's old friend.
